A Building With Nearly 200 Years of History.

Oak House has been part of Upper Holly Walk since the early Victorian development of this part of Leamington Spa. Houses began appearing along Upper Holly Walk from around 1835, and Oak House was designed by architect William Thomas, who created a distinctive Gothic-inspired building with its characteristic twin gables. Today, Oak House is Grade II listed.

By the late nineteenth century, Oak House had begun a new chapter as Leigh Bank College, a private school for girls. During this period the original house was substantially extended, including the addition of a striking glass conservatory. Historic photographs from the early 1900s show pupils and staff gathered in the grounds, with many features of the original building still clearly recognisable today.

Between 1937 and 1945, the building became home to Leamington Liberal Club, an organisation whose roots stretched back to the mid-1880s. Originally based in Leamington Town Hall, the club moved to Upper Holly Walk and Oak House began a new life as a social and community venue — a role it has continued to fulfil ever since.

Oak House Sports & Social Club

In 2015, the club adopted the name Oak House Sports & Social Club, marking the start of its modern chapter. The new name reflected what the venue had become: a welcoming community club centred around sport, social events, live entertainment and bringing people together. Today, Oak House continues that tradition from its historic home on Upper Holly Walk.

The Future!

Oak House has been part of Leamington for generations, but we're not interested in standing still. We're working to breathe new life into the club while keeping the character, community and welcoming atmosphere that make it special. That means improving our spaces, introducing new events and activities, supporting local groups and performers, and finding new reasons for people of all ages to come through the doors.

Our aim is simple: to make Oak House a thriving, affordable and inclusive social club for the years ahead — somewhere to meet friends, try something new, enjoy a pint, join a group or simply feel part of the community.

Oak House has a long history. We're looking forward to writing its next chapter.
